The Dutch government will not bring in new policies, the tax state secretary Eugene Heijnen is expecting a fall in gambling revenue but that will not change anything currently. 

The gambling taxes in the Netherlands changed on the 1st January 2025 to 34.2% from 30.5% and will increase again but not until 2026 which is expected to be 37.8%. The original forecast for revenue for this year was an increase of 100 million euros but now regulators expect a drop of 40 million for 2025.

It doesn’t stop there with VNLOK having said that the implications on deposit limits, ad bans and sponsorship bans could cause an even bigger shortfall of revenue by 200 million euros.

The spokesman for the government Heijnen that the gambling income is falling due to restrictions, especially online. Having said that the shortfalls are part of normal fluctuations in budget they feel not the new policies so they won’t change course.

The State Secretary for Taxation Eugene Heijnen took charge in September having replaced Tjebbe Van Oostenbruggen who resigned from her position linked to foreign policy decisions.
